The old town
The Old Town of Plovdiv is a historic preservation area in the Middle of the modern city. There are many remains preserved from Antiquity such as the Ancient amphitheatre, Roman odeon, Roman Stadium, the archaeological complex Eirene and others. In the 12th century BC the settlement on one of the hills grew to the Thracian city of Eumolpias which was among the first cities in Europe. Many museums, galleries and Churches are found in vicinity.

The ancient theater of Philippopolis is one of the best preserved ancient theaters in the world and one of the main tourist attractions of Plovdiv.
It was built during the time of the Roman emperor Mark Ulpius Traian (98 - 117) AD. and was discovered during archaeological excavations from 1968 to 1979 by the Plovdiv Archaeological Museum. It is located between Jambaz Tepe and Taksim Tepe. The Philippopolis Theater is the only preserved ancient theater building on the Bulgarian lands.
The Ethnographic Museum
The Regional Ethnographic Museum in Plovdiv is the second largest specialized ethnographic museum in Bulgaria with a well-established scientific-educational activity and an attractive center for cultural tourism.
It is housed in the Kuyumdzhieva House - a cultural monument of national importance.
